Answer to a question on BlurtIt

I recently responded to a question that was posed about Prepaid on the site BlurtIt.  You can read the trail below:

Question:  “Does the person who is already in prepaid get paid if they sign up someone else is it a pyrimad system. L am asking because of being interested in making is not every one. ”

My Answer: ”

There are two ways to get involved in Prepaid :
1. As a member: You can pay a monthly fee to become a member of and utilize the services ( Family Plan, Shield, etc) There is no to sign and you are not considered and associate. You are a user of the service. As a member, you do not have a right to sell the service.
2. As an Associate: Seperately from the monthly service, you can pay an enrollment fee to become and Independent Associate of and market/sell the services to make commission. Currently there is a $49 fee through Dec 31, 2007 to become an associate. As an associate, you also have the option of paying the same monthly fee to obtain the services from Prepaid that a member would receive.

Prepaid is definitely not a Pyramid Scheme, but rather a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) company, like Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc. I have many happy customers that use the Prepaid Services on a regular basis. You can read some of their Prepaid Legal success stories on my web site

There are some key differences between an illegal pyramid scheme and a legitimate MLM company.

1) In pyramid scheme, associates are paid primarily to recruit more associates, not to sell product. This is not the case in PPD. I make no by recruiting other associates (except in my downline’s product sales).
2) Pyramid schemes typically don’t involve a legitimate product. There might be a skeleton of a service or offering, but the primary form of compensation is recruiting.

I can personally vouch that Prepaid is a great service. If I can answer more of your questions, please feel free to contact me at the information below. My Web site has a lot more information as well.

Another Happy Prepaid Legal Customer - Charitable Care Appliation and Funeral Home Contracts

To whom it may concern,

I wanted to thank you for the fabulous service.  I am going through a very difficult time right now.  My husband has lung cancer and he is currently in the Hospice House receiving fabulous care.  I recently had to make his final arrangements with the and I had to submit some financial paperwork to the Visiting Nurse Association to determine how much I would be expected to pay for his stay at the Hospice House.  Since I am a Prepaid customer, I decided to send my provider the for review and the as well.

I contacted my provider this morning.  He returned my phone call within 1 hour and offered me some excellent advice.  I promtply faxed the contracts and documents to his attention and received a return phone call again within an hour.

It gives me great peace of mind to know that I have someone to assist me with issues in my time of need.  When a family member is dying, the last thing you want to worry about is signing a bad or having someone take advantage of you.

The customer service for Prepaid is top-notch.  Thank you so much for your support.

IdentityTheft Shield saves the day for this PrePaid Legal Customer

Mr. Harland ,

I wanted to share a story with you about my identity being stolen. I am extremely excited about our new Shield, and what it means to consumers.

In 1986 I received a phone call at my office. A gentleman told me I was behind on my watch payment at his jewelry store. I explained to him that I had never bought jewelry from his store; more-or-less financed anything at his store. He asked if the social security number they had was mine, I verified it was. He told me I must be the one that owed them the . I hung up and ignored the call.

Two days later, I received a phone call from [an automobile dealership], stating I was behind on my Cadillac payment. I informed them that I did not own a personal vehicle, and that all I had was a company car. They asked me if the social security number they had on file was mine, and I confirmed that it was. He told me that I was the one who purchased the car, and that I either needed to bring the note current or they would pick up the car. I gave them my address and told them to feel free to pick up the car that I did not buy.

It just so happened that the owner of the company I worked for was an by profession. I told him about this and he told me to go to the credit bureau and look at my credit report. I did this only to find out that there were numerous bad debts, charge offs, etc., on my report. I told the person at the bureau about the two situations above. They told me they were going to do some research and would call me back. They called me back a couple of days later and asked me to come back down to the bureau at a specific time so they could review my file again.

I went to the bureau, Chilton at the time, now Experian. I walked into the meeting room and there were nine people in the room. They asked me to be seated and the gentleman across the table from me proceeded to tell me things about my life that I was shocked at. I had never been in trouble with the or anything like that, but was amazed at how much this gentleman knew. It got so intimidating, that I stood up and told the gentleman that the meeting was over. He asked me to sit back down and handed me his card. He was with the Secret Service. He proceeded to tell me that they had checked me out ‘top to bottom’ and that I was ‘clean’. He informed me that my identity had been stolen.

He explained how it happened. There was another ‘Larry Smith’ who was a bureau member and he had somehow gotten my information through the bureau. He started applying for a series of loans, using my social security number. He also showed my current address as his previous address on the loan applications.

Due to my good credit, these institutions approved the loans. He had a Cadillac, jewelry, a sailboat, and other loans. He did not stay current with the loans. Therefore, all of these bad debts were reflected on my credit report. However, [the gentleman from the Secret Service] did not inform me, nor did I know, that there were two other credit bureaus called Equifax and TransUnion. These two reports were never corrected. Each time I applied for credit, I had to give my password to the people I was applying for with. This way they could access my file. At this time, the 1980’s, Equifax and TransUnion, were not key players in the . Not that many companies used these two resources, so my loans were approved.

The Secret Service did inform me that the person who stole my identity had been found, and that he was a key executive (white collar) in a water purification company in Plano, Texas. They arrested him and put him in prison for fraud.

At the end of two years, the credit bureau, now TRW, ‘un-vaulted’ my file. The three credit bureaus started exchanging information, and before I knew it, my three reports were an absolute disaster! I no longer had the card of the gentleman from the Secret Service, as two years had passed.

I contacted TRW and explained what happened. They told me the process I needed to go through to correct the matters. For the next six years of my life I was miserable. I did everything the credit bureau told me to do, to no avail. I was paying interest rates on my mortgage at 9.25% when the market was at 7%. I was overpaying on everything I had. I was being declined , etc. I spent countless thousands of dollars because I was portrayed as somebody I wasn’t.

The beginning of my second year in Pre-Paid Services, Inc., I was sharing this story with the managing partner of …our provider firm here in Denver. He had me sign over power of and took a personal interest in the matter. Within 90 days, my three reports were the way they should have always been, and there were fraud alerts on all of them.

Today my mortgage is at 4.25%.

As a victim of identity theft, I am acutely aware of the hardships that can be caused when a person’s identity is stolen. The addition of the Shield is just another example of Pre-Paid ’s commitment to stay in front of the trends. This product will continue to drive our company into massive momentum! Thank you for always looking for additional benefits for our members, and additional income streams for our marketing associates.

In Equal Justice,
Larry Smith Colorado

Justice served for a Prepaid Legal Identity Theft Shield customer

As you know, before I received my information from Kroll, (a credit card company) sent new credit cards for an account I had requested be closed, to my old address.  (The card company) called me December 29th to ask if I had been using the card because someone had been having a very good time with it at Wal-Mart.  Someone had also been writing checks on the account, I later found out.  But…on to my story.

I called ’s Customer Care and was given a number for .  I called and spoke to Jeremy.  He was Super! We didn’t open a file on my case because the person using my card had already been arrested.  Jeremy was very surprised that someone was already in .  He advised me of my responsibility to (the credit card company) - which is none.  He gave me a number to call and place a fraud alert with each credit repository.  And he told me if I had any trouble with (the card company) to let him know and he would take care of it.

Later I did receive a threatening letter from (the card company) stating if I didn’t complete and return the forms they had enclosed that they would .  Well…I knew my rights thanks to and so I threatened them right back- with action.  You know what… this account that had almost $4,000 in - now has a zero balance.

Thank you and Pre-Paid

A Wood

A happy Maryland Pre-paid legal customer - resolving a consumer dispute

Here is another letter from a satisfied PrePaid Legal customer.  Her pre-paid provider law firm helped her to resolve a $1300 dispute with a cell phone company.  Without having a PrePaid Legal plan, she may not have even called a lawyer.  She might have just swalled the jagged pill and paid the disputed bill.  By having a pre-paid plan, you have the comfort and support of knowing that you have a law firm available by phone to provide prentive assistance and send letters on your behalf to resolve disputes.

To Whom It May Concern:

Back in December I ordered two cell phones. The phones were ordered through a third party. (The third party) called me back three days later and told me that I was declined for the phones. A month later I received a $1,100 bill. I called (the cellular company) several times but they told me that I was held responsible for the bill. In February I received another bill for $1,300 (the cellular company) still would hold me responsible for the bill. So I called Pre-Paid and spoke with (my ) who helped me a great deal. He first told me to call (the third party). I had lost the phone number, but (my attorney) looked the number up on the internet and got all the information for me. He also advised me to always be careful of third party vendors, which is something that I never paid any attention to. I called (the third party) and explained to them what happened and no one ever called me back. So (my provider ) wrote a letter to (both companies). I was so afraid that I was going to have to pay the bill for the phones I had never received.

Two weeks later I received a call from (the cellular company’s) Fraud Division. She asked me to explain what had happened. About one week later I received a letter saying that I would not be responsible for the $1300 bill, and I owe it all to (my provider ). If it wasn’t for his help I would have been stuck with a $1,300 bill that I did not create. He was very helpful. When I told him that I threw away the brochure for the phones and didn’t have (the third party’s) number he did the work for me, and I thank him very much for getting me out of this disaster. Thank you so much.

Letter of appreciation from an Identity Theft Shield customer

Here is another letter of appreciation from an unfortunate victim of Identity Theft.  Fortunately for Miss Wood, she had IdentityTheft Shield and is back on the road to recovering her identity.

Dear Pre-Paid ,

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Twice now I have had to contact due to an problem. On both occasions I was fortunate to speak with [the same gentleman]. He has been such a comfort to me. He has emailed me some information so we can get the ball rolling faster. I can’t begin to describe how aggravated I am about this entire situation. I’m so glad I have someone to call that I can trust to handle the situation. [He] has been very professional and so understanding; I can’t begin to thank him enough.

Sincerely,

A. Wood
